SETTERS - IRISH RED & WHITE

My honour to award CCs in this lovely breed for the first time. Thanks must go to my two hardworking Stewards who agreed to continue in the outside ring and endure the Scottish summer weather! Thanks also to the exhibitors who supported me and for being so sporting in acceptance of my decisions. I have always felt that the breeders have done a fantastic job in bringing the breed from the verge of extinction to level where, a number over the years have competed at the very top level of our sport and have not been overlooked. To have achieved this in such a relatively short space of time is truly to be congratulated.

PD (2) 1 Walker's Vanders Va Voom Avec Wroxham. Lovely prospect. This young man has a good, well proportioned head with good finish to muzzle, crested neck of good length, well ribbed back, wide hindquarters and good feet. Moved soundly. BPIB. 2 CallaghanDalriach Lord of the Isles For Laoirebay. At a different stage in his development but has the essentials in place. Moved soundly.

JD (2) 1 Walton's Gallybob Gold Standard. Very attractive young man. Super head and expression, good length to neck running cleanly into well angulated front assembly, showing forechest. Well sprung ribs, carried well back to strong, muscled, loin. Good finish to croup with wide, nicely angulated hindquarters, used to good advantage on the move showing excellent reach and drive. An exciting prospect. 2 Whitaker's Viewland Uncle Walter. Pleasant head and expression, strong neck, preferred the depth of chest and overall length of 1. Moved soundly.

PGD (4) 1 Humphries' Spyefire Priceless. Decent head and expression, with good stop. Clean strong neck, flowing smoothly into 1st class front assembly. Good spring and depth to ribs carried back to a strong, well developed loin, wide well angulated hindquarters with good finish to croup. Superbly presented and conditioned, shown to advantage. Moved with reach and drive and in profile his footfalls were almost faultless covering the ground effortlessly and showing his socks off, which gave him the RCC in the face of strong competition. 2 Green's Temynloah Quinlan at Viszaset. Pleasing head of good proportions, would have preferred more angulation to front assembly. Good spring and length to ribs, strong well developed loin, wide powerful quarters. Moved soundly. 3 Wades' Oldestone Snowstorm.

LD (2) 1 Ryan and McDonald's Berryessa Royal Affinity of Ryemills JW. Well balanced head with super expression, enough front angulation, good bone of correct shape. Strong well muscled body with good depth and length to ribs. Hindquarters show enough promise that at just 2-years will yet develop. Unfortunately a little proud of his tail today. Moved soundly. 2 Sierakowskis Tullamore Troubadour. Lovely head and expression with good stop and correct finish to flews. I found him a little too racy in overall appearance for my taste. Would have liked more depth to his ribs which were carried well back to good wide quarters and well muscled. Moved soundly.

OD (7,1) 1 Valentines Sh Ch Tullamore Ted JW. ' Wrap him up and I'll take him home,' came to mind as I went over him. Exudes breed type for me. The best of heads with the wonderful expression given by correct proportions, stop and skull shape. Strong clean crested neck, travelling smoothly into super front assembly giving him excellent forechest, deep, well sprung ribs carried smoothly back to a well muscled strong loin and wide powerful hindquarters correctly angulated through croup, stifles and hock joints. Moved, as his construction dictated, with effortless reach and drive showing the articulation through his joints and using his tail well. At 3?, quite young and maturity coming through his lovely conformation will only improve him. Immaculate presentation and condition. Delighted to award him CC & BOB and proud to watch the drama that led to him taking Group 4 in a lovely Gundog Group. 2 Jones' Sh Ch Ryemills Deerstalker of Berryessa JW. An old favourite of mine and he is a very classy fellow. Love his head and expression, his overall balance and super breed type. Excellent front, showing forechest, correctly ribbed up, with spring and depth. Strong loin and the best of hindquarters. Moved using his tail well driving off his hindquarters and covering the ground smoothly. A worthy Champion but carrying too much weight today to ward off the challenges of the 'Young Pretenders'. 3 Johnston's Dalriach Infamous Grouse.

PB (1) 1 O'Connor's Caispern Maid in Ireland. Delightful little girl who shows lots of promise for the future. Many of the essentials are there and just need time to develop. Super bone of correct shape and good front angulation. Well ribbed back and hindquarters will develop. Good feet and moved happily and soundly.

JB (2) 1 Hill's Taniswood Precious Jade at Kolfor. Raw youngster who is overcoming a bad experience in the showring. Overall good shape and balance. Good head showing stop and well shaped back skull. Nicely angulated front, correct bone, well ribbed back. Hinquarters wide with good turn of stifle. Moved soundly. I'm sure with patience and gentle handling her confidence can be regained. 2 Walton's Gallybob Gold Charm. Pleasing head and expression, nice layback to shoulders and return of upper arm but a little loose in front. Strong couplings, well muscled wide hindquarters. Moved well, would just prefer a little more of her all through.

PGB (6) 1 Callaghan's Laoirebay Ocean Sunrise. Lovely bitch whose outline is beautifully balanced. Super head of correct proportions with good stop and eye shape. Strong neck flowing cleanly into good layback of shoulder and return of upper arm, strong oval bone, well sprung ribs carried back to well muscled loin. Correct hind assembly, wide and powerful. Moved well and with style. Considered her seriously for high honours but in today's company felt she needs a little more time to gain that maturity which when achieved will trouble the best. 2 Humphries' Laoirebay All That Jazz Among Spyefire JW. Close up to 1 and many of the same remarks apply. Well balanced in outline with well angulated front showing excellent prosternum. Correct bone and well muscled throughout, super hindquarters and moved well covering the ground. Just preferred the expression of 1. 3 Housby's Tullamore Tiggywinkle.

LB (5,2) 1 Davies' Ballakinnish Mignonette at Zymore JW. Stunning head and expression, well shaped eye good skull shape, strong neck smoothly fitting into shoulders, good front and return of upper arm, correct bone, deep, well sprung ribs carried to strong, well muscled loin. Wide well angulated hindquarters, good feet. Moved soundly with drive. 2 Howatson's Whispers About Vanders. Pretty girl who in profile presented a balanced outline. Good head and pleasing expression, good shape to skull and nicely finished foreface. Well shaped bone, good front with correct angulation, deep well sprung ribs, strong loin, wide well angulated hindquarters. Lovely on the move both coming and going and in profile holding her topline and using her tail well. 3 Valentine's Tullamore Trixiebelle.

OB (6) What a fabulous class! Decisions were difficult and hair splitting. 1 Barry's Shireoak Hurrican Ruby Rustasha (Imp Can). Very classy lady who just filled my eye. Loved her athletic outline and thought she has oodles of breed type. Super head with good breadth to skull and correct finish to foreface with plenty of work. Well shaped eye, ears well set on. Strong clean neck through to correctly angulated front assembly, oval bone, well muscled throughout, ribs allowing great spring and carried well down and back. Strong loin and hindquarters nicely angulated. Articulated well on the move covering the ground effortlessly carrying and using her tail well. Delighted to award her CC. 2 Walker's Sh Ch Wroxham Merry Maid. Another very worth Champion and many of the same remarks apply. Lovely balance and athletic build, pleasing head and expression, strong clean arched neck. The best of fronts with beautiful balanced angulation front to rear set off by strong well developed body properties. Hindquarters strong and powerful and all joints articulated on the move which was free-flowing and ground-covering using her tail to advantage. Her markings are a little unfortunate but her overall excellent conformation and maturity would not allow me to overlook her for RCC. 3 Barcoft's Sh Ch Ballakinnish Mistinguette.
